Ivica Malčić (Zagreb, Croatia, 1964) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Zagreb in 1996, where he studied under Professor Miroslav Šutej. He works primarily in traditional mediums such as painting and graphics. Early in his career, he developed a unique artistic style characterized by anti-academic figuration, direct expression, free gesture, collage, and a sensibility akin to “art brut” and what is often referred to as bad painting. Malčić regularly participates in solo and group exhibitions across Croatia, and his works are part of the collection at the National Museum of Modern Art in Zagreb. For his exhibition “Malčić Goes to MSU” at the MSU Zagreb in 2023, he received the Vladimir Nazor Award, which is the most prestigious award for artistic achievement in Croatia.
