Eugen
Feller

Eugen Feller (Split, Croatia 1942) has been living in Zagreb since 1945, where his family originates. A self-taught artist, he developed an interest in painting at a young age and began exhibiting his work in 1959. In the early 1960s, he worked on his Malampijas series, creating relief surfaces and monochrome structures. During this time, he established himself as one of the most important and radical representatives of informality in Croatian painting, alongside Ivo Gattin. In his later work, Feller gravitated towards minimalism and geometric abstraction, continuing to explore these styles to this day. In 1969, he moved to Sestri Levante near Genoa, Italy, where he lived until returning to Zagreb in 2000. In addition to painting, he also creates objects, drawings, and graphics. In 2014, HRT produced and occasionally broadcast a TV film titled “Contemporaries – Eugen Feller.” His works are housed in many museums, galleries, and private collections. Over the years, he has received numerous awards for his contributions to art, including the Vladimir Nazor Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017, the most prestigious award for artistic achievement given by the state of Croatia. He continues to live and work in Zagreb.
